Gazette-Patriot, Carrollton, Ill., Thursday, August 28, 2003, from an article about the "Greene County Days" activities: This one-acre cemetery is located just north of the village of Ceres on Rt. 267 north of Greenefield. The first recorded burial was in 1844. At one time, there was a Grange Hall and a school in Ceres, as well as a small store. The cemetery, includes such surnames as Curtis, Harmon, Herron, Newingham, Phillips, Sorrells, Spencer, Strowmatt, Warrolls and Redman. Buried here are Civil War veteran Rev. Joseph Redman and his wife, who came from Virginia by way of Kentucky and Indiana, and who raised eight children in Greene County."
This once neglected and abandoned Greene County cemetery is in Athensville Township and is slightly less than 1 mile south of the Morgan-Greene County line. the brushy burial site is in Section 4 of Township 12 N, Range 10 W. Ceres Cemetery is west of U.S. Highway 67 and is on a hill south of Lick Creek.

Special Notice: After conversing with Kendra Langdon last fall, I was so pleased to receive an update from her regarding their progress in cleaning up this cemetery. Today she contacted me with the following message: "It was a lot of work. The cemetery is now in good shape, and the sign will be erected this summer. She went on to say that she couldn't take full credit for the clean-up work - and indicated that the following people were instrumental in bringing this cemetery back to the current good shape it is in: Her father, Ken Suter ‎(who she says has done most of the work)‎; her husband, Greg Langdon; and her son Garret Nolan. She also indicated that her father's great-grandparents, John & Ann Strowmatt, are buried here at Ceres Cemetery. A big thank you to this wonderful family for becoming interested in the cemetery, expending countless hours of work, and for honoring their ancestors by cleaning up and marking the resting place of these pioneer ancestors. How wonderful it would be if some family or families with ancestors buried in the other old abandoned and neglected graveyards would adopt one and do the same.
