Note: A memorial service to honor the life of Dr. Harold Gilbert (Doc) Hedrick, age 87 of Ruston, will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 17, 2011 in the chapel of Temple Baptist Church in Ruston. Rev. Dale Oden and Dr. Lynn Hawkins will officiate the service. Dr. Hedrick was born November 15, 1924 in Canton, Ohio to John Henry Hedrick and Lena McLaughlin Hedrick. He died December 8, 2011 at the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Monroe. Dr. Hedrick was a Professor of Microbiology at Louisiana Tech University from 1959 until his retirement in 1988. While at Tech he served as the Director of Graduate Studies for the College of Applied and Natural Sciences. He was active in the Ruston Lions Club and served as District Governor and was the Chapter Adviser for Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Dr. Hedrick served his country in the US Navy during WWII. In his spare time, He enjoyed working in his yard as well as reading. Dr. Hedrick is survived by his wife of 32 years: Shirley McGivney Hedrick; one daughter: Mary Jo Hedrick of Granbury, Texas; one step daughter: Cindy Nations of Ben Wheeler, Texas; his grandchildren: Mariam Hedrick-Ainsworth, Leah Hedrick-Ainsworth, Michelle and husband Derrick Merritt, Michael Carroll and Mary Marie Carroll; great grandchildren: Logan Lee Merritt and Morgan Leah Merritt as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings and one step son: Mike Carroll.
